A. —BIOL. ,,Formation et accumulation, normale ou pathologique, de pigments dans les tissus`` (Méd. Biol. t.3 1972). Pigmentation de la peau; pigmentation cutanée, rétinienne. Chez telle salamandre, l'obscurité arrête le développement des yeux; chez telle chenille, la température modifie la pigmentation; chez tel oiseau ou mammifère, le régime influence la longueur de l'intestin (J. ROSTAND, La Vie et ses probl., 1939, p.170).
B. — 1. CHIM. ,,Ensemble des pigments contenus dans une peinture ou dans les préparations assimilées`` (Peint. 1978).
2. Coloration par points ou par taches de couleur. Les jours approchent où la grande grisaille marine va rendre à tout le décor ses harmoniques fondamentales —une pigmentation subtile gagne çà et là, par flaques —le sel pâlit l'enduit des murailles, avive d'un rouge grinçant le fer des grilles, le vent de mer sable les planchers par les fentes des portes (GRACQ, Beau tén., 1945, p.10).
